Privacy Policy
Ghar ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Ghar mobile application (the "App") available on the Apple App Store.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
When you use Ghar, you may provide us with the following information:
- Sign in with Apple: Ghar uses Sign in with Apple for account creation. When you sign in, Apple shares a unique user identifier with Ghar. Apple may also share your name and email address, depending on your choice during sign-in. If you choose "Hide My Email," Apple provides a private relay email address that forwards to your real email. Ghar stores the user identifier, the name (if shared), and the email address (real or private relay) to create and manage your account. We do not receive your Apple ID password.
- Household Profile: Family name, household member names and ages, religious tradition (sampradaya), ishta devata (chosen deity), and experience level. This information is used solely to personalize your practice experience.
- Preferences: Language preferences, notification settings, and practice preferences.
- Practice History: Records of practices you have completed within the App, saved/bookmarked practices, and collections you create.
- Community partner access: If you use a mandir, ERG, cultural organization, or other community partner link or code, Ghar may process the partner code, partner identifier, anonymous install identifier, app version, and redemption status to connect your app with that partner program. Ghar does not store the raw community code in analytics.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Location Data: With your permission, we collect approximate location data to provide accurate panchang (Hindu calendar) calculations including sunrise/sunset times, muhurta, rahu kaal, and other location-dependent astronomical data. You may disable location access at any time in your device settings.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for compatibility and troubleshooting.
- Usage Data: Anonymous, non-identifying product interaction analytics such as app launches, feature usage, session activity, and screen views. This may be collected through Apple's App Analytics and the AppsFlyer Strict SDK to measure installs, understand campaign performance, and improve the App. This data is not linked to your identity.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect biometric data, health data, or financial information beyond what Apple processes for subscriptions.
- We do not use AI chatbots or generate personalized spiritual content using artificial intelligence.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not access the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA).
- We do not use cookies, web beacons, or similar tracking technologies within the App.
2. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:
- Contract Performance: Processing necessary to provide the App's services to you (e.g., household profile, practice history, panchang calculations).
- Consent: Where you have given explicit consent, such as enabling location services or opting in to push notifications. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate Interests: Processing for app improvement through anonymous analytics, provided this does not override your fundamental rights and freedoms.
- Legal Obligation: Processing required to comply with applicable laws.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Personalize your experience: Recommend daily practices, festivals, and content based on your tradition, experience level, and household composition.
- Provide calendar features: Calculate accurate panchang data based on your location.
- Maintain your practice history: Keep a personal log of your completed practices.
- Support community partnerships: Validate partner codes, associate your anonymous install with a partner cohort, help partners support rollout, and prepare aggregated partner reports.
- Send notifications: Morning practice reminders, festival alerts, and preparation guides (only if you opt in).
- Improve the App: Understand how features are used to make Ghar better for all users.
- Communicate with you: Send important updates about the App, your subscription, or changes to our policies.
4. Data Storage and Security
- On-device data: Practice content (guides, articles, mantras) is stored on your device after initial download for offline access. App preferences and cached data are also stored locally on your device.
- Cloud data (Apple CloudKit): Your household profile, practice history, saved collections, reminder preferences, and cloud sync snapshot data used by Ghar are stored securely using Apple's CloudKit infrastructure, which provides end-to-end encryption for private data. This enables syncing across your devices signed in to the same Apple ID.
- Ghar core app data remains on-device or in Apple CloudKit. Household profile, practice history, saved collections, reminder preferences, and cloud sync snapshots are stored either on your device or in your private CloudKit container managed by Apple.
- Community partner systems are limited. If you use partner access, Ghar may use its own HTTPS endpoint to validate the partner code and store partner attribution, redemption counts, anonymous install identifiers, and aggregated reporting counters. We do not store household profile details, family member data, precise location, or individual practice history in the partner backend.
- We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
- In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by applicable law within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach.
5. Tracking and App Tracking Transparency
Ghar does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not use the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA), and the App does not request permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework because we do not engage in tracking as defined by Apple.
Our anonymous usage analytics and AppsFlyer Strict SDK install attribution are used to understand app installs, campaign performance, and feature usage. They are not used to build advertising profiles, sell personal data, or track you across other companies' apps or websites.
6. Third-Party Services
Ghar integrates with the following third-party services:
- Apple (App Store, CloudKit, StoreKit): For app distribution, data storage, and subscription management. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Ghar community backend: For partner-code validation, anonymous partner attribution, and aggregated partner reporting. Premium access from partner programs is redeemed through Apple StoreKit offer codes or normal App Store subscriptions.
- AppsFlyer Strict SDK: For install attribution, SKAdNetwork support, and anonymous product interaction analytics. In Ghar, AppsFlyer is configured without ATT or IDFA access and is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Analytics (anonymous): We may use privacy-focused analytics services that do not track individuals or create advertising profiles.
We do not integrate ad-serving SDKs, data brokers, or social media tracking SDKs into the App. We do not share your personal data with any third party for their own marketing or advertising purposes.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
All subscription payments and offer-code redemptions for Premium digital access are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We do not receive or store your payment information (credit card numbers, bank details, etc.). Subscription management, billing, offer eligibility, and refunds are handled through your Apple ID account. See Apple's subscription support for details.
8. Children's Privacy
Ghar is a family-oriented app. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent international regulations. Household profiles may include children's first names and ages to personalize family mode features. We do not:
- Create individual accounts for children under 13.
- Collect personal information directly from children.
- Share children's information with third parties.
- Display advertising or in-app purchases targeted at children.
- Use third-party ad-serving SDKs or analytics to profile children.
All children's data is managed by the parent or guardian who controls the household profile and can modify or delete it at any time. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information promptly.

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

12. Data Retention
- Your data is retained as long as your account is active.
- Upon account deletion, your personal data is permanently removed within 30 days.
- Community partner attribution records tied to an anonymous install may be retained for up to 24 months for fraud prevention, partner support, redemption caps, and aggregated reporting, unless a shorter legal period applies.
- Anonymous, aggregated usage data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely for app improvement purposes.
- We may retain limited information for up to 90 days after account deletion where required for legal compliance, security, fraud prevention, tax reporting, or dispute resolution. After that period, all retained data is permanently deleted.
13. Account Deletion and Data Retention
You can initiate deletion of your Ghar account and associated app data from within the app by going to My Home > Settings > Account & Privacy > Data Controls > Delete Ghar Data.
When deletion is confirmed, Ghar deletes the account data and associated app data controlled by Ghar, including household profile information, saved practices, practice history, reminder preferences, cloud sync snapshot data used by Ghar, and the Ghar sign-in session, except for limited information we may need to retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, tax, partner redemption-cap enforcement, aggregated reporting, or dispute-resolution purposes.
Deleting your Ghar account does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription billed by Apple. To manage or cancel your subscription, visit: https://apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions
If you no longer have access to the app, use our direct account deletion page: https://www.getghar.com/delete-account
14. International Data Transfers
Ghar is available globally. If you are located outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States where our servers are located. We ensure appropriate safeguards for international transfers, including:
